virus to disable avg?

a kid in my class said that there is a new virus out that disables the use of avg free ed? is there any truth to this, as i assume someone would have mentioned it previously. if there is a virus, has an update been made yet to protect against it? thanks in advance

This is becoming common - there are many viruses out there that look for and disable all the common antivirus apps out there. This is why it's extremely important to keep whatever you use updated as frequently as possible, keep it running in the background, and practice safe computing. I use Norton, and Automatic Live Update checks for an update every 5 minutes.

Thanks to glc I use the below regularly. It scans w/o ever opening Windows. Of course a normal proggie is good as well.
