Hi
Could anybody tell me what is the HDD capacity limit for the Jetway 531 CF motherboard. I cant find this information anywhere in the manual. Just installed a 40 gig but think I'll live to regret it!!
You guys do a great job

is it working?
although it is a older board and I am unfimilar with Jetway™ I think it will. It seems to have some newer bells and whistles and a bios udate available.
you may want to hook up a IDE pci card if you cant get it going.

Thanks all
Its working, but slow for a AMD 450 mhz cpu, you just get the feeling somethings not quite right if you know what I mean.

Did you use the hard drive manufacturer's install software to install it? Did it install "EZ-Bios" or a "dynamic drive overlay"? Is DMA enabled on the drive?
You might consider getting an IDE controller card and an 80 wire cable, that will take care of bios limitations and perk up the speed some.

Thanks for reply
I enabled DMA settings but it didnt seem to have any effect, no I didnt use the hard drive manufacturer's install software as none came with the drive.
The bios does recognize the hard drives capacity correctly so am I right in thinking that the motherboard must support it ?
The programs apear to run at a reasonable speed when you are in them but the startup of them takes longer and windows explorer takes about 6 seconds to load, could it just be the capacity of the HDD takes time to look at.
Also startup time getting into windows 98SE takes a much longer time than expected.
Check your startup items in msconfig - do a thorough scandisk on the drive, defrag it. Do a virus and spyware scan. If you have a network adapter in the machine that's not connected to anything, either remove TCP/IP from it or assign it a static IP - or remove the card altogether.

Sorry forgot to mention that this a freshly fdisked & formatted HDD with Win 98SE installed, office 2000 and hardlly anything else on it and not yet connected to the internet so Ive ruled out a virus as ive used the insallation disks before with no problem. Also no network card is installed and ive got 256 meg ram.
Could the bios settings be at fault?
What's different, anything besides the new drive? What brand and model is the new drive? What type of IDE cable are you using, how is it connected, and how is the drive jumpered?
