new PC w/1g C: drive

As many of you know from my previous posts, I have recently assembled a new PC.
I have just noticed (not very observant I am afraid), that the C drive only has 1 gig space. The D drive has the bulk of 27, and I have a E drive of 2g. The win 98 is on C and I install programs to D.

I have noticed that the C is using way too much space, even if the bulk of a program is in D. Is it possible to increase C without having to reformat and re-install win98?

Wanted to know now, before I install the 40 or so programs I have waiting and ready to go.C has 467mb used space by the way.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You can resize the partitions with Partition Magic. If you are running WinME, you will need the latest release (version 6). It can be done with an older version on ME, but it takes a bit of tinkering.

Yes, there are several programs that let you repartition your hard drives without any data loss. Partition Magic is the only one I have ever used and it works great. <a href="http://www.powerquest.com/">Here</a> is the link.

Keep the C: drive for use by the operating sysatem only.

Install all of your 40 programs to the 27GB D:drive.

You can resize your partitions if they do not suit you, but 1GB is enough for the OS.

This sort of configuration is what I would use myself with the exception that I would partition many logical drives and not just 3.

I have 8.4 GB partitioned into 6 logical drives with a 1.4GB OS drive. + 2 GB secondary split in two for me and for her (his and hers). I have heaps of free space, it will depend on your use of the system as to how you deine your filing system.

Only thing I could add is that I tried to install MSWorks Suite to the D: drive and setup will not allow it. Some programs/apps will not give you the options. So it helps to gave a larger C:. Mine is 2 gig for just such a problem.
