I was reading an article @ tomshardware about overclocking the A7V last night.
Which board is actually easier to overclock? The A7V or Abits KT7
A7V is done with a dipswitch???
KT7 is done on your actual screen via soft bios which is a menu.
have I got that part right?
Seems like it would be easier from a menu if I have it right.

The A7V can be overclocked by the dip switch but you can use the Softmenu (BIOS) to overclock also. The dip switches can overide/disable the Softmenu but the default is to use the Softmenu. Both are good boards. I have also heard that some of the new ASUS A7V's don't have the dip switches.
The A7V's with on board audio don't have the dipswitches. Make sure you get the one without audio (may be marked WOA).
As far as which is better? Ford of Chevrolet?
The Abit has an ISA slot, the Asus doesn't. Some people have reported stability problems with TBirds on A7V's, but I got an extra 400mhz outta my Duron with an A7V.

is there an advantage to using dipswitches???
Which Duron did you get?
I have the 650 Duron. Nope, makes no difference how you go about it, you're just changing bus speeds and the clock multiplier on the board, so whether that's accomplished in the BIOS or by Dipswitches, doesn't matter.
If you go too far and you machine doesn't post with the Asus, you change the switches back. if you go too far and your machine won't post with the Abit, it restores defaults and brings you into the BIOS when you reboot to set CPU parameters again.
