A friend of mine asked me how I could make his wireless connection secure from outsiders. He is using a Linksys Wireless router. Not sure if its 802.11a,b, or g. Also not sure what model it is. I told him he can set the router to accept only connections with certain MAC addresses. Or statically assign IPs and alow only those he sets to access the wireless network. Also I told him to download ZoneAlarm which will work with the Linksys router.
It wasnt much that I could tell him so I am coming here to ask you guys if you have anymore suggestions. Anything will help.

I put a FAQ or checklist on the Networking forum - http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=82079
Hope it helps you.

Main points to that article that I would like to highlight:
1) Make sure to configure a WEP(at 128bit) wifi connection I see that most people still dont have WPA. as most of you know rotating the key every few weeks is important because if you generate enough traffic then other people with packet sniffers will be able to break the WEP. I learned that the hardway.
2) makling sure that your SSID is off broadcast is very key because unwanted people will not be able to connect to your router. If they cant see you then you are safe.
3)making sure default passwords and SSID's are changed is the most important thing to follow if you decide to use this information. The biggest downfall to many homes and small businesses with wifi routers is defaults.
Hope I helped.
