Copying hard drive

I'm building my own
computer and and replacing my old 20G drive with a huge 120G
one. The problem is i still have information on my old
drive which i want to put on to the new one. About 16G
worth. I was wondering how i can get the info from one to
the other. Do i simply have to make tons of data cd's or
backup ones? Is it possible to simply install the old one
in
the new comp and then copy all of the info over? Also, is
it possible to somehow put windows XP and office that I am
running now onto the new HD without re-installing (i lost
the xp disc)? Thanks for any help in advance.

the drive usally comes with the software to do what you want and need, just follow the instruction carefully

You can use WD's Data Lifeguard tools... (http://support.wdc.com/download/dlg/dlgsetup11_win.zip) if one of the drives is a western Digital drive...
or Powermax (http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/downloads/powermax.htm) if one of them is Maxtor.
It will walk you through doing an exact copyover of your old hard drive to your new one.:D

I did the same thing with my 6GB out of my old computer. I just installed it as a slave and copied files trhough windows. I don't see why you would need any extra software.

You need the software to clone it, that's the only way to do it without reinstalling the OS and your applications.

IF you get System Comander 7, you will be able to copy your old Hard Drive to the new one. I did mines last night and it works perfect.

You can do the same thing with Ghost and Drive Image too - but the WD and Maxtor tools are free. Buying System Commander is only worth it if you are also going to use it as a boot manager for multiple operating systems and for resizing partitions.
