For my next build, I'm going with Asus P4P800 and a P4 2.6GHz with an 800MHz FSB.

I wanted to set up two HDD. A WD 30 or 40 GB with an 8MB Cache for applications, and a 120 GB 8MB Cache for everything else.

Then, i read about SATA and decided thats what i wanted. But I can't find SATA drives that are 30 or 40 GB. Then I saw that OfficeMax has a WD 120GB IDE for $60 after rebates.

My question is, will the two types work together? Say if I bought a 60 GB SATA and the 120GB from OfficeMax?
Or what should I do?

Are you asking if you can use SATA and PATA hard drives in the same computer? Yes, you can. You just have to let the computer know which drive to boot from...in your case, the SATA instead of the PATA.

excellent job of summing it up Cricket :D but yea..that's what i was trying to get at. So, I can go ahead and buy the PATA from OfficeMax. I'm guessing the smartest thing to do would be to load all programs on SATA and have it boot from that drive, right?

SATA drives usually have faster seek times, so loading and booting up with your SATA drive is recommended.
