CD-RW Problem

Hi,

I have tried to copy some mp3 music from my hard drive to my CD-RW. But when i copy the music it skips and has weird noises when i play it on my hi-fi. But it says on the device manager this device is working properly. It was working fine before until now. How can i solve this problem?

Do the problems occur when played back on your computer or just on your hi-fi?

You say you are using CD-RW and playing it on a standalone CD player? That itself may be the problem. Not all CD players can handle CD-RW media. CD-R works better.

it happens on both. I always use CD-R it is my CD-Rewriter

aslo, make sure you aren't burning at a higher speed than recommended for the media you are using.

yeah i have used wma files as well and what will happen if i burn music at a lower speed than recommended?

Actually, when I asked if you have tried different media I wasn't referring to the file type, but the brand of blank CD. That is, if burning onto XYZ brand CD-Rs is causing problems, have you tried another brand? Similarly, have you tried burning at different speeds?

These questions help determine if it is the CD that is at fault or something else.

it will take longer to burn at lower speeds. If you burn at higher speeds you will have problems, especially if it's a generic brand. If the media is rated for 32x, try burning at 24x or even 16x. As Dr. Gonzo suggested, try a different brand.

My experience: I bought a pack of 100 700MB CD-Rs from Office Depot. They were rated for 32x but if I burned at 32x, it would spit out the disc and indicate an error. I tried burning at 24x and problem solved.

Different CD burners seem to "like" or dislike certain brands. It's almost a try-it-til-you-find-one-that-works-for-you deal. Memorex works on my desktop units using Liteon burners but my daughter's Toshiba laptop doesn't like them at all.

I've had good luck with Fuji and Verbatim. I tried some cheapies from Wal-Mart once and my truck stereo was not happy with them, although they played back in my car and home stereos.

What software? My experience, burn as slow as you can (4x maybe, or 2x). Also enable Jitter Correction if you are using Nero.

IMHO, audio data takes much less kindly to fast burns than does pure data.

i've used Memorex as well, and so far they have been trouble free. I thought I was getting a good deal when I bought 1 100 pack and got antoher 150 free. :rolleyes:

The problem is with the Bit rate of the mp3 files.
All computers will play mp3s over 128 bit sound quality, but car stereos and hi fi systems dont have a decent decoder that will play above 128 bit.
So if you hearing screeching sounds ? its becouse the decoder cannot read the bit rate above 128 bit.
Make sure you convert the mp3 down to 128 bit if the file is higher.
Also most car stereos only play wav files and wont play mp3s unless stated, but same rules applies to the mp3 bit rate.
