Just by accident, I right clicked my dvd-rom drive and under hardware tab and type column, it is listed as a CD-ROM. I think it should be DVD/CD-ROM, but cannot find anyway to change it. Will this affect anything, or am i just very vain?

i dont think you have anything to worry about as long as your DVD drive is working properly. I believe the type column is just a very general classification. so yea, you are probably being to vain. :p

yeah actually, my XJ-HD166S is acting up. before it was fine, but now it occationally gets really choppy in playback in windvd and powerdvd to the point that the prog crashes. Sometimes discs aren't recognized either. Tried several discs with same results and used those discs fine on other comp and a dvd player hooked up to tv.

Perhaps reinstalling the driver for the drive could do the trick?

Did you make sure that DMA was enabled?

Did you test the drive in another computer yet?
What about removing the drive from Device Manager and letting Window re-detect and install it?
Maybe the drive is just defective.
