I have never been so unhappy with an upgrade in my life! I have backed 'Symantec', and 'Norton' alot on this site, but this is out of control!---First-off--- its way to much money$ for the upgrade--AND 'then' you can't download it anyway...or "I" can't---and they can't help figure it out!(They suggested I buy the "box" Upgrade for much more!)
As we all try to keep our systems *clean*--I hope this msg gets to *SYMANTEC* cuz they are impossibe ("we'll call you back"--read: "--business is good--sorry--with all the new 'bugs' but, you understand*" we're busy..")

{anybody thought of who might be makeing these 'virus'??}

i'm tired of a great(?) compay not caring, and one that I 'support', and not being more 'available' to their customers*

Ask for a refund, wipe the system clean of Symantec/Norton entries, and download AVG from Grisoft.com for FREE. I started using it on machines I service if the owner doesn't have an AV and I've got it on 2 of mine. Two others are running Norton and I don't see a difference. When the Norton time runs out, I'm not going to upgrade. Replace for free is much easier on the wallet!

Absolutely agree. Norton was nothing but trouble for me. AVG has done nothing but keep my comp clean.

Haven't gone to '04 yet, but I've never had any real problems with NSW. I ususally get the OEM version to install on the builds.

"Norton" has been just a word and a picture on the box for many years. It's a shame he sold out to Symantec.

My complaint with Symantec's products is that they seem to do less and less with each release, but at OEM prices, I still use NSW Pro.

I've used Norton for several years with no problems. It has always kept my unit virus free.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. That's why I haven't upgraded to 2004. My subscription runs out in February - and I'm gonna do one of 3 things.......

1. Renew the subscription

2. Upgrade then to 2004 "IF" the current issues are solved.

3. Uninstall 2003 and ZA Free and put the free ETrust suite on.

Right now I'm leaning toward (3).

I should have mentioned---I was refering to Norton Internet Security 2004. I like their fire-wall, too---& both Norton AV, and Norton Firewall (therefore: 'Norton Internet Security') have won awards from PC Magazine for their security performance--many of you may not like "Norton" software, but it keeps on beating most (all?) others, under scrutiny & testing...!

Their customer service leaves alot to be desired, however. My systems (3), two desktops (Dell's) and my IBM ThinkPad run just fine with Symantec products.

Not just the customer service tho. It's the mess it leaves all over your comp when you install/uninstall as well.

BRVD, if you are running 3 systems, I assume you have a router and home network. If so, running the Norton Security is somewhat redundant to the router's hardware firewall. If you do want a software firewall, many recommend Zone Alarm. I don't use it as I too have 3 and sometimes 4 machines on my network. When all the Mblaster problems hit last summer, I never got touched. Norton is good stuff, just a bit bloated. Most of their tools are redundant to the native XP tools and everything else they offer is available for free from other sources. No offense, just my opinion.

Nope---I'm not 'networked'. And I till don't understand the 'bloated' reference given to the product. I'm speaking of Norton Internet Security---(with anti-virus, and fire-wall) & NOT 'System Works', which it seems you and others might be refering to, whenever the terms "Norton" and "bloat" come up here.
My system starts up, & runs like a 'deer' with the AV and Firewall turned on or off---no difference! Also, I don't see any 'redundancy' with Internet Security vs. 'XP tools', at all. Again, I think your refering to System Works, which I don't use.

thanks for the comments*---any more?

I just went to Powerquest's site to see if there are any updates to drive image. Guess what? Symantec just bought Powerquest. I have always liked drive image over ghost; I hope they [Symantec] does not mess up drive image.
