SATA question

Ok I just bought a SATA hard drive for my computer. This is my first SATA drive and i am new at this so bare with me please. That’s the only hard Drive that I have on my computer. I am trying to install WinXP on that hard drive but I am having a hard time doing it. I plugged in the Drive to the motherboard and plugged in the power as well. When I start the computer and load XP from the CD drive after starting to install it gives me a message saying:
Set up did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer
Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer supplied diagnostic or setup program.
When I got my drive it didn’t come with any CD’s also when the computer starts up it reads the drive saying Primary Channel ST380023AS 76319MB
When I hit F4 to enter RAID utility on start up it also reads the drive.
So
I guess my hard drive is plugged in correct and is powered. Is there something iam missing or forgot to do? This is my main and only drive on my computer just want to load XP on it. Thanks

Never used that mother board but am my Asus I had to enable the RAID/SATA function by changing a jumper on the MoBo. Just a thought. Even though you enable the RAID function, it won't be functioning usless you configure in the BIOS so don't worry about that. Once the jumper is changed you should be OK.

go into the bios and see if there is a setting for making sata the boot drvice

HERE (http://www.giga-byte.com/Download/Download.asp?DownloadPath=/MotherBoard/FileList/Manual/manual_gc_sata_2001.pdf) is a link to Gigabite for the SATA set up. As the previous post said, you will have to go the the BIOS and change the boot setting to a SCSI (?) device and tell it that is first choice for your boot.

When you start the install there is a message that comes up to prompt you to hit F6 if you have third party drivers.

You need to install the third party SATA drivers when prompted with the XP install.

The drivers for my Asus were on the mobo CD under a folder called drivers. I had to copy them to a floppy as that is the only option that XP gave me for the install.

Si3112 and Si3112r look about the same i am going to save them both on disk and try them tonight when I get home from work. I hope it works

Yes the Silcone Image drivers are the ones you need.

On mine there were two SI3112R (One is the Notepad setup file), SI3112R.MPD, SIISVPP.VXD and TXTSetup.OEM that I copied to a floppy. Be sure to leave the floppy in until the install finishes. It will access it again near the end.

Don't forget to change the boot order to SCSI as first boot device after you get XP loaded if you don't have the option to set SATA as first boot device. My Asus doesn't have SATA, just SCSI, HD0, HD1, floppy, ect. No SATA, so I have to use SCSI.
