Today I founda virus on my computer and i keep getting a prompt from AVG about it...

It says this:

"Virus
Trojan horse Downloader.Dyfica.K

is found in file
C:\WINDOWS\nem214.dll

To remove this virus, please frun AVG for Windows"

SO i run avg and it doesnt quarantine the virus...... ANd the program just exits... then i find the file and try to delete it myself and it gives me this message

"Cannot delete nem214 : Access Is Denied

Make sure this disc is not write protected or is not in use" etc etc...

But about every 45 seconds or so AVG prompts me about this virus... how can I get rid of this thing? thanks

You can use the free utility "Move on Boot", to move or deleted the file on the next system reboot, before anything is running, or you can use the task manager to stop the process before deleting the dll file. You might also be able to boot into safe mode and remove the file. You can download move on boot from here:

http://www.gibinsoft.net/gipoutils/bin/moveonb.exe

Try running AVG from safe mode. If no good results try Trojan Hunter (http://www.misec.net/trojanhunter/) .

Run your AV from safe mode, chances are the file wont be active and the file will be able to be deleted. Tis one of the blessings now of Windows XP. I get systems in with a virus, I boot to safe mode with network support and go to http://housecall.antivirus.com for a quick cleanup.
