I want to share my printer with other computers on my network. 1 is useing 98se and the one with the printer is win2000. How do I setup printer sharing?

Confused

Open up the printer properties and under the sharing tab select Share this printer and give it a name. On the WIN98 PC try to browse to it. You might have to physically connect the printer and install it on the WIN98 PC in order to get it setup. After that you could move it back to the 2000 PC.

With my XP PC, I was able to browse the local net and find the printer connected to my wife's WIN98 PC and install it without physically moving it. I'm not sure that WIN98 is that flexible.

Right click My Computer, Properties, Network Identification, Properties. You can change the workgroup ID on that screen for W2K.

I have the printer set up to share, I can see my computer and the other computer on the network. When I go to the other computer and try and browse the network I get the message: Unable to browse the network. I know its connected because it gets internet. Anyone know whats wrong?

I fiexed my last problem, apparently win98 doesn't like haveing its workgroup changed. Now I have a new problem. When I open up the network and click on the win2000 computer it asks for a password. I didn't set a password what do I do?

type in the name and password of the logged in user on the win2000 box. you may be able to just type guest, but i don't think that will work unless you have the guest account enabled

What do you mean by loged in user? Do you mean I need to go to userd and passwords, and make an account with the user name being the network name of the other computer?

what i am saying is that in that prompt for password, just type in the username and the password that is on the windows 2000 box (the computer you are trying to get into). i am assuming 2k is somewhat like xp. otherwise, if it is like 98 then you have to set the password for the share on the 2000 box

It doesn't ask for a username just a password. I haven't found anywere to set a password either.

I'm shareing a printer not a folder. I get the promt for a password when I click on the computer name not something that is in it.

my bad, i thought we were passed that. right click on the printer and go to sharing then look for password and set it. i would first just try typing in the password of the 2000 box, because that will normally work

Like I said before it doesn't give me an option to set a password. I tried the password for the 2000 box and it doesn't work.

don't know if there is something like this in 2000, but right click on my computer->manage->local users and groups. set the password for the guest account and then try that password

just a suggestion, but have you tried not entering a password and then just hitting enter? might be simple, but if you don't have a password it may be just that. problem is i don't have 2000 nor have i ever used it, so it is kinda hard for me to visualize it without ever doing it in that environment. i am accustomed to 98/xp networks.
