problem with my CD-RW

hey you guys, how you all doing?

Any way, I bought a CD-RW 52x24x52x Drive from CompUSA
about 2 months ago. The problem... I am able to install programs (games, etc.) I am even able to burn cd's with Nero software. I have the game Rainbow 6, Raven shield
I installed, no problem! well I load the game, got to the main screen but the game froze, tried ESC, Alt+Ctrl+Del, I even tried the reset buton. nothing! I had to unplug the pc.
the same problem happend with the game Age of the Mithology, and Star Wars Knights of the old Republic.

If you think the problem is the driver please give a link so I can download, my os is windows xp pro

It sounds like you have some other problem. If the drive installs the programs and you can burn with it I would assume the CDRW is OK.

Optical Drives do not use seperate drivers that are downloaded. Since Windows 95 these drivers have been installed automatically by the operating system.
The three most likely problems are:

1. The drive does not have DMA enabled and is operating in PIO mode. To enable DMA go to the Device Manager (Press the Windows and Pause/Break key at the same time), then expand the IDE,Atapi Controllers entry, Right click on the Primary or Secondary controller based on where the drive is installed. Use the Drop down box to select DMA if it is in PIO Mode.
2. You need to disable Digital Playback on the drive. Do this also from the Device Manage by right clicking on the drive and selecting properties.
3. THe drive is bad as this is a symptom of a bad drive also.

Well, I do not know what the deal is. The simptoms seem to be the same for every game I own.

Did you perchance replace another burner? If so did that other burner had Easy CD Creator as burning softwar? If you installed Nero with any part of Easy CD creator or Direct CD still on your system, it can cause all kinds of crazy problems. Just a thought.

how sure are you that the copy protection is not what is stopping you

well that's the thing! I do not know. In fact I try to rebot my pc, and I got the massage qq.exe missing! what the hell?
