I've never had a floppy drive fail on me, so I'm not really sure what the symptoms are.

The floppy drive I'm using always gives me a "disk write protection" error whenever I try to write something to the floppy. It sometimes has problems reading the disks, as well. The floppies I've tried are fine; they work in other drives with no problems.

the write protect led may be bad or blocked out by something.
it it looks ok then just replace it, the drive that is
for 8 bucks, there not worth fussing with

Yeap! That is one way.

I have some loose drives in my stash of parts I can choose from to replace it.

Btw, the drive isn't using LEDs to determine write-protection. It uses plastic pins and one of them broke off so it can't be pressed down to enable writing data to the disk. :p

Thanks guys :)
