Just dropped my hard drive from my old computer --- was going to transfer some files into new computer--- new computer didn't recognise drive--- so reinstalled into old computer --now doesent boot----- also making new noise ---sad noise sort of a whirring sound---sad sad sad---any suggestions (Western Digital 100GB) on possibly fixing it. Thanks Gene

Sounds like physical damage. But you might try adding it as a slave in your new machine and then test it with WD diagnostic software. You can get it from their website or you can run the test online too. The online test has some repair features also.

It musta landed just right... or should I say just wrong?? I've dropped more HDs than I care to mention, but they have all came out OK. I'd go with what Panama Red suggests and hope for the best.

Thanks Panama Red-- went to wd site and used their tools--could not fix--- they refered me to warranty--ha ha ha Thanks Gene ---Looks like I've made a new paperweight !!!

Sorry to hear that, Gene. Now if you're curious about the innards of a hard drive like I was awhile back, you've got one you can open up! Or you could always play dumb and try the warranty route. If you bought the drive yourself separate from a computer, it should be covered for 3 years.

Probably not but, you dont have to tell them u dropped it :rolleyes: Just say you it started acting up one day, as long as there are no dents or any signs that it was dropped you should be ok

My old hard drive has physical damage and the company didnt give me a new one since they said I physically did something to it, which I did not.
