I was wondering what effects the loading of a game
Like when you load a new map in battlefield for example
also what effects the installation speed of a game?

well for the installing it would be the processor and the ram, plus the speed of your hd, and the speed your drive reads cd's.
well i used to have 32 mb of ram and this rpg game ran fine but would load terrably (SP?) slow and i upgrades my ram and it loads iob no time now, it could also be how fast your hd is and processor.

When loading a map in BattleField for example.

The speed of your Harddrive and the size of your HDD's cache as well as your Ram affect the time it takes to load.

Definately processor and RAM. Going from my comp (XP2100) to my sis's comp (P3 500) with the same game takes hers at least a minute longer to load.

It's a combination of CPU, RAM and HD speeds.

The drive is the number one determiner of load times.

Everyone says something different. Lol.

Im with Nuclear Krusader on this. But the order for me is: Ram, HD, CPU. These are all important parts though. When I used to have my scsi hooked up everything was lightning fast. :)

This is why i think it is HD and Ram

i had a 7200 Ata 133 harddrive with a 2mb cache
then i upgraded to a 7200 ata133 harddrice with an 8mb cache and the load time improved by around 30-45 seconds

then i later upgraded from 128mb to 384mb of ram in this particular pc and that furthermore imprroved the loading time by another 15-20 seconds

This was all the loading on the same game on the same map.

So it seems that Harddrive cahce and ram are most important followed by CPU
Thanks for the replies

Let's put it this way.

CPU affects the speed at which the program computes the call for data.

RAM receives the data and stores it for immediate use.

HD seek time and cache are in charge of the data retrieval.

The operation is handled by CPU and HD first and the RAM just receives the data at the end.

When I had to downgrade to 256 MB of RAM Call of Duty and Medal of Honor started taking an eternity to load. Hopefully I can buy some more RAM soon.

1 gig of RAM and 10k RPM SCSI hds here, I always get my plane ;).
