I have win98 on my PC now but I can't install XP because it says there is a problem with a driver so I went into my device manager and found that there are drivers missing for the following, NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking Adapter, PCI Communication Device, NVIDIA nForce(TM) Audio. I have tried to install the drivers from the win98 disc, from my motherboard disc, and I have downloaded new drivers, but it says that there are critical files missing.

sounds lik you did not install the inf files from the cd that came with the motherboard, and all the drivers and software too.

I messed around with it for a while and it is still missing the "nvmcp.cat" file when I try to install the driver.

Yep, it is a very bad idea to install any OS on top of Windows 98. Backup any files that you need and reformat and then install XP.

Go into the BIOS and Disable the on-board LAN port, I have had this problem in the past and this stops it. After you have completed the XP install you can re-enable it and it will automatically load a driver for it or you can use the one on the CD.
