Is the Liteon LDW411 4x internal dvd-r/rw 'dual format drive' a good deal for 80 bucks after rebates? Will it copy from a dvd player [its also a liteon]? Roughly how long would a 4x take to record a full dvd? I am thinking that a dvd recorder would record faster than a cdrw with dvd recording software. Is this true? Thanks Guys.

It's a good deal. Now if you are talking about copying movie DVD from one drive to the other you are talking a different animal. First the dvd movie is going to be a dual layer dvd with almoost twice as much space on it as the blank DVD-R disk you are using, plus it will probably have some sort of copy protection.
So first you will need a couple of little freeware proggies and some hard drive space. The first is DVD De-Crypter which will remove the copy protection while recording the DVD to your hard disk. One Problem solved. THe next is getting the DVD down to DVD-R size, for this you need DVD-Shrink also free. You can get all of these at www.doom9.org

I bought that one last week. $80 is a good deal. It will copy most info direct from a DVD player but not a pre-recorded DVD Movie. That has to be copied to the HDD and then to a DVDR. It will copy a DVD movie to the disc in 20 mins. or so. Depends on the movie. The only problem I've had is burning a CDR. Roxio and NTI will not recognize it. I am most satisfied with the product.

If you are having a problem with the Nero not seeing your old drives then you can get Nero 6 Ultra to cover all the drives (great program for everything) or you can get rid of NTI and Rox and go with a freeware program called Deepburner from the link below for CD-R burning.

I have another CDRW. I took it out, when I bought the DVDRW, and left the DVD ROM in. Ill give Deepburner a try before I put the CDRW back in. Thanks for the link.

I have that drive. Working well so far. It's not as noisy as the Lite-On CD-RW I have. Good brand by most all accounts heard here.
