When trying to open Add/Remove Programs, keep getting the message "an unexpected error occurred. Object doesn't support property or method. res://sp3res.dll/default.hta. Line:82
Problem just appeared 12/24/03 after I fixed a .url short cut problem, but I don't see any relationship

From another forum (it might work but there was no response there)
You can fix this problem typing in command-box:
REGSVR32 APPWIZ.CPL
This is the official Microsoft fix

APPWIZ.CPL and not sp3res.dll? the former didn't appear as in the MS KB article. Last thing I need is to corrupt the registry. I can back it up & restore it, but why take thre risk?

If you're using XP, just restore it to a time before the problem started.

yes the restore would be the best way to correct the problem

If SFC doesn't do the trick, press F8 while booting to get to the boot menu and select "Last known good configuration", then enter and see if that helps.

Neither SFC nor Restore fixed the problem...also ran 3 spyware apps (Pest Patrol, Ad-aware & SpyHunter) and a trojan app (TrojanHunter) - no spyware or trojans...reinstalled Win2K, SP4but still have the problem.

I found this on another site...it's worth a try:
Click Start, Run, and copy and paste the line below (it is case sensitive).
rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE"
/g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt"
Choose Repair Internet Explorer and restart.

If that doesn't do the job try this one:
> Error in Script
> ...
> URL: file ://C:\winnt\Web\dialup.htt
or this one
> Error in Script
> ...
> URL res://sp3res.dll/default.hta
You can fix this problem typing in command-box:
REGSVR32 APPWIZ.CPL
Keep us posted on what if anything that works.

Redo40: Neither of the suggested fixes worked...also tried the following with no better luck:
1. ran sfc/scannow & sfc/purgecache
2. Ran RESTORE (f8 on restart)
3. Ran 3 spyware apps. (Ad-aware, Pest Patrol & SpyHunter...no spyware.
4. Ran TrojanHunter - no trojans
Anyother suggestions.
5. Reinstalled Win2K, SP4

Redo40: I stand corrected...I tried the first fix a second time & it worked...probably because I was very careful when I typed it in and included " at the end.
Thanks much for your help.
