blurry samsung 173v

i just got the samsung 173v for christmas, and there is a 3" bar on the monitor that produces a fuzzy image. i have my resolution set at 1280x1024. when i set my resolution at 1024x768 it is not as bad, but still noticeable. i have an ati aiw 8500dv. running windows xp pro. the maximum resolution according to the manual is in fact 1280x1024, so i would like to be able to use it at that. if anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated.

edit: nevermind, i think i fixed it. hit the auto button and it seems to have taken care of the problem. no more blurriness
