Other than setting a permanent swap file, frequent defragging, moving swap file to front of drive (I use Speed Disk), does anyone have any other tips and hints to make Windows 2000 run better or smoother or faster?

Shut off all nonessential services, Native defragmenter is best, but if u must clutter with 3rd party software Diskeeper is by far the closest.
If there are multiple "insecure" users, try to do the "little things" unifying temp directory and such...
Perform security updates.
Minimize logging of general programs.
Establish limits to log file sizes. Perflogs are defaulted at max sizes.

I'm running Win2K just by myself. Nobody else.

Is that Service Pack 1 worth installing?

Yes, you should install SP1, in fact, I wouldn't even run Win2000 without SP1. It fixes many security issues.

Although Win2000 is more secure than 98 SP or not.:)

Hi 357 Mag,

Check out this MS page, I found some good tricks and such on it before.

Hope that helps.
