What advantage does a video card have over the onboard video on a good Intel (D845GEBV2) MOBO? Would a non-gamer need a video card or would onboard video be sufficient for surfing and some video editing? I don't understand just how good onboard video is. Thanks, Ken

The way I look at it onboard video is good for people who mainly do 2D tasks on their computers, e.g. office software and websurfing (like office machines for instace). If gaming or 3D work is involved, I'd ususally recommend a separate videocard.

Onboard video can also often be found on big server boards. These machines (servers) don't need fancy videocard as they are not designed to play games, so onboard video will be fine.

I think to determine if onboard video is good enough, you'll have to determine exactly what the computer is going to be used for, and then make a decision from there.

I use Intel motherboards with on-board video for people who use their computers mostly for surfing the net, word processing and minor photo editing. They all seem to be pretty satisfied with the on-board video image quality.

The onboard does video editing fine, that's not 3D-intensive, it's more processor intensive. Just set the frame buffer to max (8mb) in the bios.
