go HT! They're all around the same price these days anyway. May as well spend a few extra $ and get the performance increase.

Look at the prices of the P4 2.4's at newegg (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?catalog=343&DEPA=1&submit=property&mfrcode=0&propertycode=&propertycodevalue=4186,3922). They are actually cheaper than the non-HT at that speed. :D

Don't get OEM, get the retail box. It comes with a very effective and quiet heatsink/fan and a 3 year warranty.

is this going in your HP PC? if so you may have a problem with compatibility

If I'm not mistaken, the HT can only be used with Win XP Home or Pro.

Using Belarc or Aida32, it lists the processor as having two of them in W2K. Could work but seems I read about XP only able to take advantage.

Actually ur right carl,since the older versions of windows were created when this technology was not developed, i would have to say that only windows XP can use both, since it had been out when intel had first introduced (or was developed while intel made deals with windows to make XP compatible with it). Linux versions are also likely to have HT compatibility, but who the hell knows, i sure dont, i dont use linux....yet.....

No worries spyda, i had emailed HP if it would work, but they said that only the 2.5 would work or i would have to get a new board, so im doing that, along with getting a new case, but i dont know if windows will work with the new mobo, i know the recovery system built in wont work but with raid and a new hdd, i wont mind....

im planning to take my older HP, Sacrifice the memory the hdd. the graphics card, and a cd-rom drive/floppy...whats the course of action for this, do i take all that stuff and just plug it in and add teh drivers, thats all right? Most of the specs i have in my sig are gonan be in my new pc? what u think? Also, when do newegg shipments usually come in? i wanna get this before my mom gets home...at 6, i am hoping they bring it by at 4, how does that work...

After doing a bit of reading, it does appear that it is supported, but it appears win2k suffers some performance hits in certains applications with it enabled. It does look like that Windows XP would be the bet to use with a Hyperthreading cpu.

oh floppy how the heck do i backup, can i backup my windows files so that i wont have to reinstall becausei have no disk (OEM) and i wanna be able to use it till i can buy a retail version or get a new hdd, oh wait i can just hook it back up to my hp system and do it from there to... cool!

Have you read the Build Your Own PC Guide on this site yet? Also, most of that information should be in the motherboard and other manuals. I suggst for you to read that guide and also study the manuals before you start. Then if you run into trouble while building, just post here, there are always people on the boards willing to help out. HTH
