Can someone tell me the difference between the xp2400 and the xp2400 Thorton? Is one better than the other? Thanks Doug

i think its just the core, ones a Thoroughbred and the others a thorton. any other ideas?

I think the webmaster at newegg goofed.
Those are the same OEM cpu and someone needs to do some proof reading.
Same cache, same front side bus and the both run at the same 2.0GHz.
In fact everything is the same, including the price.
My advice, skip both and get the 2500+ Barton for $90 retail.

They havn't actually goofed in this case, it seems that amd have released this and are planning to call it the Athlon FX, it is basically the barnton with half the L2 cache(essentially a thoroughbred ) but it is set to be the new duron, as amd have stopped making the duron. the reason of the name change is because with the athlon name, it can market the chip as a mid-end as apposed to a low-end chip.

The Athlon 64 FX-51 is the $733 dollar super chip for 64 bit processing with 1mb of cache.
The Barton has 512 .
And this, whatever they're going to call it has 256.
Whatever AMD will call it eventually I'd be willing to bet that a large number of people looked at the 2400+ and thought they'd ordered a Barton with 512mb of cache.

They are two different procs. Diff model and part numbers. Rumor has long been that AMD will be replacing the Duron with the Thorton. Many places are now selling the Thorton (incorrectly spelled Thornton at some sites..) but the funny thing is there is still nothing "official" at AMD's site!?!

Thank you for the replies. I wasn't sure if my motherboard would support the 2500 Barton. That's why I went with this 2400. Just before I got ready to install yesterday I noticed it was a Thorton. Just like Tworails, I searched the AMD site and found nothing. It does seem to work at a lot faster than the 1800 I was using. Doug
