ram + prosesor help

how much ram can a "Micro-Star Inc. MS-6132" mobo handle. it currently has 32 mb of sdram. also its current processor is "Intel Pentium II, 266 MHz" what is the best processor for it. even if its just a slight differance. i know its a old machine, ma mum n dads first one. i had a look on the net for that mobo but its know where so i figures u guys would help. also it had a 3 gig HDD how much can it handle aswell.

ps if i put some more ram and space and a better processor could it handle win xp. i was thinking to get it oem for ma bros birthday or summet.

am i better starting again with a new mobo cos i really dont wanna change the mobo.

This motherboard(MS-6132) can handle a maximum of 256MB of memory. According to the motherboards manual the maximum processor support it a 333Mhz Pentium 2. The windows xp question, well for windows xp to run it needs an absolute minimum of a 233Mhz processor, 300mhz recomended, that included the pentium range, it requires a minimum of 128MB of RAM, and 1.5GB of Hard drive space, i can say however even though the system may run, i can't see it running great, it will probably be very slow with windows xp installed.

so if i put in 256mb of ram and another processor ( if worth it or can find 1 - not sure) and beter HDD. could it work win 2k at a reasonable speed. or should i stay with win 98 se

also is the ram socket thing 168 pin?

The SDRAM DIMM is 168 pin yes. you may be better sticking with windows 98 SE, you will still see a difference with the upgrades you are going to do.

Windows 2000 will run acceptably with a 266 if you put at least 128mb of ram in it, 256 would be better.

You will need low density PC66 or PC100 dimms, 128mb max per module.

either 2 sticks of 128, or just one stick of 256MB, if you havn't got enough memory slots then one 256MB would be the same ;)

maybe your motheboard only supports 128 per module , soz didn't read that bit, didn't check out the motherboard, yea, 2 128 modules ;)
