I got a call from a friend who just got a kodak DX6340 digital camera. He installed the software and said he followed all the directiongs in the manual, but when he plugs the camera in(via USB), it freezes the computer after 5 seconds or so. He has called kodak support a few times w/ no luck, im not sure what they have tried besides the standard uninstall/reinstall software and upgrading to the latest software. This is on XP home, and kodaks website says xp home has built in support for this series of cameras, so could it be the windows driver?

any other ideas what could be causing this?

TIA ^dan

First, with XP you don't really need the OEM software if the camera is recognized as XP has an excellent built in software for reviewing and downloading the pictures from the camera. The only thing that you need the software for is the editing functions and most OEM software is minimal at best for this purpose. I myself use Paintshop Pro for this.
Second, unless the camera is using non-removable memory, the best way to download pictures is with a card reader, which are less than 20 bucks these days. Not only does a card reader fucncion like a read only drive, it does not require the camera to be recognized or to end up with software conflicts.
Finally have you tried getting the newest version of the software or any XP patches from the Kodak site.

personally, I would say to forget the camera software all together and get a card reader and just pull the memroy card out of the camera and insert it into the reader, and your pictures can be transfered to the computer with cut and past if you want, its the best and easiest way to do it,
it also saver the battery life in the camera.

Yes he downloaded the newest software.

If i cant get it working normally, i will suggest to get a card reader. That makes the most sense(even if I get the camera working)....so Ill probably suggest to get it anyways.

Thanks a lot guys :) ^dan
