I have a fairly recent installation of win2k pro on this machine: Asus A7N8X-X, athlon 2500, kingston PC3200 256MB stick, powercolor 9600pro. the scanner is an HP scanject 4200c. The software & drivers would not install (they only will work on 98SE -- there is a message that prevents me from using them on 2k). So, I downloaded the full driver & software package for the scanner for win2k.
When I try to open the scanner software, the initilization logo comes up, but it just sits there. The scanner is plugged in and powered up, no driver conflicts in the device manager and the scanner is unlocked.
I let the comp sit there for 15min to see if it would actually load the scanning software, but it didn't. The machine wasn't locked up. I could still do other things.
Any suggestions?

I think you need to install the software first, with out the scanner connected
and be sure that you removed the first attempt install drivers and software.

Sounds like maybe something got installed with the 98.2 install attempt... I'd try unplugging the unit, un-install, reboot, reintall, then plug the scanner back in (HPs don't like to be plugged in first...)

It was off when I installed the software origionally, but I'll give it another shot.

that don't mean off, it means not connected, there s a differance.

I had the power plug unplugged, but the USB plug was still connected. Ok, I'll disconnect everything ;)

Nope no luck. I'm going to try upgrading to SP4.

Been working 13 hours the last couple days, but I'm back (for at least today :) ) -- are these the drivers you tried, Force Flow?

I have that same scanner with XP. I have a lot of problems with it working even with the HP drivers for XP.
I will have it working and then a few days later i will go to scan or copy something and it won't work even with a reboot. I then uninstall the software, reload and it works again. I've been a big HP fan, but my next scanner will be something different. I will probably continue to use their printers but probably a different scanner.

Yeah, that's what I got, tworails, thanks.
I think the main problem was that the scanner & software wasn't made with 2k/XP in mind. Only 9x systems. :(

Don't have any other ideas "rat" now... let us know how SP4 works, OK?

I'll be sure to. I'm going to download it tomorrow when I have access to a broadband line. ;)

Ooookay, I installed SP4, no problem.
It helped out a little.
I still have a problem with one of the frequently used features: the email scan. It scans fine, but when I try to save the file to the HDD, I get this error: An unidentified program error had occurred [2117].
Other than that, everything is working fine. The only problem is, that is the one think that is used all the time! Any suggestions?

force flow, is it HP Precisionscan LT software you are using? do you have it connected through a hub? if so,
i know it is unlocked ect..
- Plug it directly into the computer
- If this doesn't work, uninstall the scanning software and the scanner, then when you come to reinstall the software/scanner a choice will be provided for installing WIA or the manufacture's software. Select WIA.

Yes, I'm using the HP Precisionscan LT software and have it connected directly to my computer. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the software and drivers multiple times.
