Hi,

I've seen a few files on the net which come as one file .toast and the other .dmg

I am guessing that .toast is a CD ISO to be burnt with Roxio's Toast program? If so is there anywhere I can download a demo of this program? Or find another program to perform the same operation?

I am guessing that the .dmg is an ISO as well, but for what program?

Thanks,

Jim

http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=dmg will give you details of the dmg extension

I would assume the .toast extension would refer to a file burned with Toast (http://www.roxio.com/en/products/toast/index.jhtml).

Until Roxio bought it up, Toast was the definitive burning software on the Mac platform.

Apparently Toast and DMG files can only be burnt to CD on a Mac system?

I hope not! I don't have one :D

OK when I open the files in ISOBuster they come out OK as CD Images

What should I extract them as? RAW Data, User Data or what?

Thanks,

Jim

You could burn a DMG to cd on any PC, but you would need a Mac to mount the image and use it.

So no ISOs with extension DMG can be used on a PC?

Thanks,

Jim

a dmg is not an iso, it's a mac disk image file, sort of a virtual HDD image, you can mount them on your destop and add and remove files from them, when you're done you unmount the image and it gets wrapped back up in the .dmg package.
