According to the police report, Dumouchel called Charter to stop his cable service in August of 1999 and was taken off the billing but not the cable service.

In a written statement, he said he put the family TV in the basement in 1999 after he had called to get cable disconnected, but soon thereafter, his wife had moved it back and hooked up the cable connection, and it still worked.

He stated he “made a deal” with her that “she could watch TV as long as the cable worked.”




Looks to me like he condemns his case right there. He let his wife move the TV back, and hook it up to the cable. He willfully used cable TV, even though he never paid for it. Seems to me that the cable company has a case against him, if they should choose to go that route.

Nothing wrong with a lawsuit. This one will be dismissed and he will have to pay the costs, and his lawyer may be sanctioned. Life will go on. Civilization will not collapse due to frivolous lawsuits. This man will continue to be lazy and look for the quick buck as opposed to doing something constructive.

Geez, when will people take responsibility for their own idiotic actions? No one made them turn the TV on everyday...that was a conscious decision made by whoever turned it on. No one held a gun to his head and demanded that the TV turned on. They could have just left the TV off. Good grief...

I'm close enough to West Bend, I could act as an expert for the defense. My upper flat gets cable, but we have never paid for it. We never watch TV. We read, listen to music, talk, whatever.

Technicallly, it should be disconnected at the pole, so the tech doesn't have to do anything on the property when cable is ordered. :)

he couldn't cut the cable with any type of snipper because the cable had made him too lazy... sort of the cables way of making kryptonite. also, this is totally speculation, but i bet the cable made him to lazy to shower, too.

actually, it's more like suing the car manufacturer and the transportation department for providing both a vehicle and a freeway. he's going after his cable company, which simple provides the channels for him to watch. if he really wanted big money, he could go after the individual networks.

I was, as pretty much all of us that have replied are, just trying to make the point that with this lawsuit, and the many others like it, are completely ludicrous, and the judge should throw the case out immediately. I don't even understand how any of these things even make it to trial. Where's Lawyer Ron ;).

Besides, he is only threatening to sue. He hasn't even done anything yet. This is less than news.

Gosh, One time the Cable Office called me stating that I didn't pay the month's cable bill, I said "Sorry, I forgot could I mail it without any problems? You won't turn off my cable?" She said "No as Long as it in the mail". I mailed the check the very next day and about a day later the stupid cable company still shut off my cable. This Guy's a moron, he got Free Cable! If he was addicted he could either never turn on the TV or disconnect it from the wall. If I was the cable company I would try to charge him for all those months that he got Free Cable and then file a lawsuit against him if he refuses to pay. :D

Wow. People are reacting as if a lawsuit had actually been filed. (Which will never happen, btw) Actually, this is just a cute little story that somebody picked up on and printed. In the article, he claims it's a "small claims court" case. I hope not. Most small claims court judges are not too "user friendly", ie, they don't have much of a sense of humor about these things. Further, he demands "lifetime internet", which would put the case far beyond the jurisdictional limit of small claims court, ie, $5,000 in most jurisdictions. Finally, no lawyer would take the case. He can talk all day about what he's gonna do. So let's all have a little laugh at the funny article and leave it at that. Soundls like just another nut that doesn't know what he's talking about.

I agree it's a funny article, but it's ironic that he's arguing about getting Free Cable (By mistake of course) when most cable companies are sticklers with payments. :D

anyone can sue for anything now a days. i could sue you for typing on this forum but that doesn't mean i have a case or going to win. Its a bizzar world isn't it
