I have a movie on my pc in Xvid format. I want a section of the audio. I tried using Primere 6.0, I got the video, no audio. I tried audacity, got some wird sounds. ANyone know how to extract audio? I don't mind if I need the portion of video along.

Get VirtualDub. You can extrapolate the audio track easily with that.

Virtualdub is free. You can download it here

http://www.virtualdub.com/download

You can rip audio out of the movie with this.

A "quick-n-dirty" way, if your sound card supports it, is to use the "Record What You Hear" function or the like.

Thanks, got it done with virtual dubb, but avi format produce only can be played with WMP9. Tried DIVX 2.5, did not work. Sometimes the video is just too slow. I don't know why

I have no idea if it'll do it but you may be able to import it into windows movie maker and extract the audio as .wma Never used WMM but most video editing packaged alow you to extract the audio layer.

Did with virtual dubb, I found out the file is huge. 1m30sec 1.8gb. The original file 170mb-23mins. Can I make the size less?

Just the Audio??!?!?!?

I can see a full uncompressed A/V stream being that large, but just the audio? Wow....

What settings did you use in VirtualDub?

Dave.

No, that is video and audio

You must have the video set for no compression or RAW data. Play around with codecs - it will become much smaller.

Use Goldwave and when you save it select MP3 as the file type, it will be MUCH smaller than the WAV file you created with VDub.
