Okay guys, I'm having a problem, I've tried putting my other CD-drive into my computer, but when I hooked in the slave IDE and the power wire, YELLOW UP folks, It responded as not being read. I could use a little help, what am I doing wrong. I've already got my CDRW in and it's served me well, but I wanna burn copies of cds now.
Help me out, folks.

the YELLOW UP has me guessing what you mean't.
and how did you get the response that it was not able to read. if you got the error "device not ready" thats not a good sign
quick test to see if hdwe is functioning at all is to observe the bios loading screen on inital bootup.
prebuilts like dell, emachines usually hide it and you have to hit a key esc or del or f1 or f2 [sometimes it tells you which one]
to make the pc display the configuration as to what is seen where.
if not possible to see, unplug the cdrw and plugin the cdrom and see if it works that way.
if not, you may have a defective cdrom.
PLEASE do check the setting on the back of the cdrom as the little jumper needs to be set to slave or cable select [cable select reccommended on cables that have a blue connector on the end near the cdrom or hdd, NOT at the motherboard end]

actually the YELLOW UP is the power wire and I'm sure that's where it needs to be, because all of my other drives have the yellow wire up. and i know for sure it's not defective because a. it was working fine for five years, not a sign of failure, and b. it doesn't get beyond bios. It's probably to jumper but I don't know which jumber is slave. I'll have to tweak it around a little bit
It's a decent system, I built it.
