How big of a HD can it handle?

Just for kicks I got an old computer from work...

P1 233MMX the board that is using is a Asus VX97...how large of a HD can a system like this handle?

I know, it is OLD...but just playing around with it....

i had a p166 with a 2gb drive. i think i might have upgraded that computer with an 8gb drive, but was restricted by the FAT16 limitations. anyway, i would put it around 8gb due to the int13h limitation.

anywho, i go to pcguide.com instead of pcmech.com for my pc needs. sorry, but i think its better. here is a link to every hd limitation i have ever seen and then some.

i would just put the cheapest drive you can find in and it will use as much as it can.

Thanks! If you're lucky, it might be able to handle a 32GB hard drive...if not, a 8GB.

Try it and see. If the BIOS recognized all 10GB of it, you're good to go.

If you are just playing with it and are using a Dos/Win9x based OS, you can use a bios overlay (EZ-Bios, DDO). Note that these overlays can be unstable and slow the system down a bit. The only problem with just tossing a big drive in and seeing what you can get out of it is this - it may freeze up on you and not complete POST without setting the cylinder limitation jumper on the drive.
