Hi guys,

I'm pretty new when it comes to networking so bare with me here. I just recently built a computer using the a7n8x mobo with the on board ethernet. Then I hooked up the BEFW11S4 router for a wireless network with another computer I had. I called the technical support line while setting up the router because I had a little trouble and he told me to change a lot of under network connections in my XP. Now when I go to join my favorite servers for internet games I ping twice as high and my downloads match the speed of my old 56k modem. I was wondering if having a network and to share my cable connection caused this or if the Linksys assistant changed something that shouldn't have been changed.

Sorry for the long winded explanation but I wanted to include all the details I could. As always any help is appreciated and if anything in my post needs clarification just ask.

P.S. I tried to hook my cable modem directly up to my computer again to see if I could get my old speed back 1800 kilo vs. the 230 I get now but my speed remains the same.

Confused

No. If you was on a router with several PC's and all started a large download at same time you would see a slowdown, but not with interactive surfing or game playing.

Go to www.pcpitstop.com and run the bandwidth test. It will check your settings with XP also I think. I know it does with WIN98.

If that doesn't resolve the problem, do you know by chance all the settings he had you to change?
Chas

I can't remember exactly what he said (he took me through a lot of steps) but I'm pretty sure it was because the router I had was set to the wrong IP address. I don't know if that helps or not.
