I'm trying to set up an Ad-hoc connection between my laptop and desktop but i can't get out of the starting blocks!!!

Cards, drivers and utilities are installed A-OK.

The 2 machines are about a meter away from each other.

When i hover over the card's utility in the taskbar, i get the message:

"Conceptronic 54g Wireless card Not connected!"

That's it!.......now what?

The instructions which came with the cards jumps straight to how you should configur your network, but i can't get to this point because i don't seem to have a connection.

I have no clue as to how to procede!

Please help!

thanks

D.

For an ad-hoc infrastucture you need to select the correct operating channel for your network typically 1 thru 6. (Make sure you use the same channel on all the devices in your wireless network) Only set 1 computer at a time and once complete shut that computer down and go to the next one.
If this doesn't work try calling tech support for help. (Remember when you buy a new piece of equipement you are entitled to their tech support, so you use it.)

thanks.....that was part of the solution.....

....the main problem was that i had "use windows to configure my wireless network settings" ticked in the Wireless Network connections box.

When i unticked this, i was able to use the card's own utility to configure things......

i then had to change the settings of my internet connection (on the desktop computer which is connected directly to the internet) so that it was sharing with the wireless network rather then the old wired connection...now everythings working hunky-dory!
