PPPoE Poop!

Why do I always have problems! Ok So I did a fresh install of my OS the otehr day (XP Pro). I am now trying to get on the internet, and did the whole Network Connection Wizard thing. I cick on set up maunually and for some reason the next screen does not allow me to Connect using a broadband connection tht requires a user name and password. This is a PPPoE connection. That is what i have (SBC DSL). How can I get this to work again? Its as if it wont allow the config of a PPPoE. I tried to just go through Internet Explorer and set up a connection that way, but I get an error message that says, Cannot Load the Remote Access Connection Manager service (Error 711). please can someone help me! How do I get the PPPoE option back!

1. Is the modem connected USB or Ethernet?

2. If it's USB, are the modem drivers installed?

3. If it's Ethernet, are the NIC drivers installed?

It's a D-Link DFE 530x Net Card. the drivers are supposedly on Windows XP already. I tried installing the drivers from the D link website, but everytime I do the program says (Exec Fail)! as for the modem and the **** that came with the SBC package... The drivers cannot be installed for the modem because everytime I try to it tells me that it cannot configure my PPPoE connection. Its via ethernet.

If your motherboard has an onboard NIC, remove the D-Link card and use the onboard. Do *NOT* use the SBC CD.

Its the RPC problem. Not the D link card, I dont have onboard LAN. Its an ABIT IC7. How can i fix the svchost.exe from runiing my CPU at 100%. THe PPPoE connection works fine now. its a config problem. I ma basically ****ed. I have tried repairing Xp.....to no avail. MY CPU is always at 100 % how do i fix? I am guessing you are not using a router, so I have no idea why you are using the Network Connection Wizard.

First disable the network device that is not going to connect to the internet.

1. Goto the Control Panel.

2. Switch to classic view if it's not already in classic view(there is an option in the left pane).

3. Click the Network Connections icon.

4. Right-click the network device you wish to disable and choose Disable.

Exact Steps for setting up a PPPoE.

1. Open Internet Explorer.

2. Goto Tools > Internet Options...

3. Click the Connections tab.

4. Press the Add button.

5. Choose "Connect to the network via broadband." Click Next.

6. Enter a name for your connection (doesn't matter what you name it). Click Next.

7. The Broadband Connection Settings window will pop up. By default Windows sets this to a PPPoE configuration. To verify this click the Properties button where it says User name, and goto the Networking tab. You should see "Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE)" selected in the first drop-down menu.

8. Enter your User name and Password. Your User name is the E-mail address of the main account. Something like JonDoe@sbcglobal.com.

Click OK and you're all set.

Now goto Start > Connect To. Select that connection, it will prompt you for User name and Password, unless you had it set to the save the password, then the information will be entered for you.
