Hey guys.
I just got myself some more Ram and I don't think my puter likes it very much.
Immediately after boot up i recieve a message that's contained in a dialog box titled:

Ofewjnlledj

x This program has performed an illegal operation.....etc.

1. What does that mean?

When I click close on that dialog box another appears that says:

Run Time Error 216 at 00002021

2. What does that mean?

I"m running 98SE and already have 128 MB SDRAM PC133 installed. I noticed that when I installed the extra memory that the stick itself was physically larger ( though not longer) than the original Ram. Could it be that the two types of Ram are incompatible or is it something else?
These messages occur after initial bootup and when i want to access system properties right clicking on My Computer, when I want to poke around in Windows Explorer, and Programs->Accessories->System Tools. Effectively i am shut out of my system info. Internet Explorer is fine as are other programs although i haven't tried any games yet (for fear of explosions and the wrath of God).
Any educated guesses, tips on the best way to destroy this computer, or other comments would be appreciated.

Thanks.

there is other ram that is like you discribe...I found my PC100 is fatter than the newer boards slots...also with generic ram and say micron or higher end ram there is a difference...

check to make sure your bios is correct...and try each seperately. try different comp, etc.

Just work your way down... till you eliminate everything 'cept that if may just be faulty chip.

It's all good.

Thanks for your reply but I guess there's something to be said for persistence. I uninstalled the "trouble Ram" and put back the old stuff and then put in the old again. That produced the same messages. Now i'm thinking that it's not the Ram. I restart in safe mode and i've got access to everything. I restart normally and boom -- Bob's my uncle.

I assume that these things can be finicky so I didn't follow my usual feelings of frustration and I stuck with it.
The moral of the story? Seat and reseat.

Personally, I would do a thorough virus scan of your system. I recently had a machine that gave out odd garbage messages like that. It turned out that he had 3 different Trojans on his system. Deleting these garbage named files didn't work as rebooting re-created them. Script files were in place to open ports on his system and he had also been hacked.
