Strange Printing

Having a bit of a strange problem with a HP Inkjet Apollo 2100U printer. When i go to print from word or that the printer starts to print about 2 lines but it is all random letters, numbers and symbols of smilie faces and that. I have the latest driver installed that i can see and have reinstalled windows 2000 back on the machien but same. I have also tried diff USB leads but to no avail. im now coming to the stage where i think it could be a H/W fault so can someone please help with some advice. i bleieve when you get the printer you get a cd and on it you can run some tests to see if it is working porperly. you can run that and see. if its not that you probably have a virus or something.

Have you tried a different cartridge?
Have you uninstalled allsoftware related to printer and reinstalled?
Another approach is to have printer not connected(usb port),install software and when it searches for printer plug the usb back in.

HP Printers tend to do that if a job gets hung up, they print a lot of garbage. It seems like deleting the job, turning off the printer and rebooting your computer fixes it.

But it seems to be a driver fault as i have tried the printer on a diff machine with XP and it works perfect. I then tried it on another machine with 2000 and it went through the motions of printing but no ink went onto the page. This Seems to me that it is a S/W fault then. I have the latest win 2000 driver on from apollo but no good. If anyone has an alternative driver then it would be appreciated
