The restore feature will restore your pc to the state of its snapshot or to a restore point that you have made. It takes a snapshot about every 10 hours of on time. If it has a restore point on 1 Feb 2001 than your system will restore back to the way it was on that date. Any software you installed after 1 Feb 2001 will have to be reinstalled, most data such as my documents won't be affected by the restore. But no its not a selective restore I mean you cant choose what can and can't be restored. I have used it without any problems, infact it has saved me a few times from having to reinstall the complete OS.
