Hello everyone. I went to install win98(not a upgrade) on a system that had win95. The hd is 6gig, under win95 it was partitioned in three's(C-D-E). When installing win98 it said there was not enough space on C drive, so I installed it on D drive & all seemed to be working fine, I think. The problem is that I would like to know how I can get rid of win95 off of C drive without deleting other data from C drive. I would also like to know if I could or should move win98 from the D drive to the C drive? I understand that win98 recognizes larger hd than win95, should I leave the hd in three sections or make it one? What drive should win98 be on? If it should be one how do I go about doing this? Thanks for the help, Sixpk.

If you wanted to make it one partition, Fdisk would be used. If there is no other hard drive or other means of storing data, consider keeping the partitions the way it is. What may be worth considering in this case is moving all the data to be kept on the D: and E: partitions, formatting the C: drive, and reinstalling Win98 from scratch.

just remember fdisk will destroy all your data so be carefull

How would I go about moving the data to d & e drive? How do I format C & then would I or should I reinstall win98 on the c drive. Would it still be on the d drive or should it be removed & how do I do that? Thanks, Sixpk

Sixpk, if you can move through windows, just use explorer to move the files to the D and E partitions. Here, the programs are not being moved, just the stuff to be kept. When ready to format, restart in MS-DOS mode, and type 'format c:' For the windows folder that is on the D: partition, I would consider just deleting it. Let us know where you get stuck.

You always want your Windows directory on the C: drive. I'm amazed it's working if you have it on D.

You can install Windows 9x (not ME) on any drive. It will put the boot files on C: but everything else where you specify.

OK so far so good. I dragged everything from c drive to d drive and then reformatted c. Installed win98 on c and all looks ok. My questions are now, how do I get the programs that I use that are now on the d drive to be included in the program menu on the start menu. I also would like to know what should I delete from the d drive that was either win95 or attached to win 95. Thanks, Sixpk.

You will have to reinstall your programs over the top of where they are now to get them registered properly. You should be able to delete the whole Windows folder on D.
