router and nortons

Two weeks ago I got dsl service. Everything was working fine, but my son suggested I buy a router. Ok, I got a DI-624 D-Link wireless. Everything seemed to work fine until I tried to do my norton's live update. I receive and error that the connection to the ip failed. I assume it has something to do with the router. I've searched and can't find any information telling me how to fix this. Any help is most welcome.
