Hi All,

I have a printer on the network and had a problem printing to it. I deleted it and tried to "add a printer" again. I go thru the wizard on XP and when I locate it, by browsing, and click on it, It says in the dialog box, "Invalid Printer Name"

When I click it anyway, I get a message that says "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Either the name was typed incorrectly, or the specifie printer has lost access to the network"

But the other 2 computers connected to this printer are able to print just fine.

can anyone help pleeeeeaaaaseeee?!

I think maybe your setting it up wrong.
how is the printer connected to the network ?
a printer server ?
with its own IP address ?

Bailey.

The printer is connected to one of the 3 computers in the network. We'll call that pc number one. Pc number can print to that printer, but I as pc number 3 cannot.

I think it is time to start over. Open up Printers & Faxes. Does the printer show there.

If yes, right click and select properties and under sharing tab ensure that name is correct. It has to be same name as on PC that printer is connected to (Check name on that PC to be sure).

If not, click on add a printer.Make sure that the printer is powered on and working before adding. Make sure that you put in correct name.

XP should find it and will probably have the drivers for it. If not you will have to use the printer CD to install it on the XP PC.

PS
What kind and model number of printer?

It is a HP 4M.

Win XP is finding it, but when you click it the printer, it says invalid name.

Delete the printer in XP, then open My Network Places, browse to the shared printer, right click on it, then click Connect.
