I have windows ME on a gateway 450 (I don't see a model # and have forgotten what it is now). I have heard that ME likes computers that are from manufactures a little better than home made ones. I installed it and BAM! I have all kinds of goofy things happening. I get system resourses problems (I have 2 programs running at the same times, usually - like IE and Outlook - and have 296MB RAM). On ocasion I loose my CD Drives / drivers and my screen resolution will go to 640X480. Rebooting helps the resolution thing, but the CD drives have to be reinstalled. We have so far ran the update on ME. It didn't help. It's just annoying, because like most computer problems, it happens right when I need to use a CD drive or it's not convienent to reboot. (Of course!).

Any information would be appreciated!

Thank you!

Mel!

Well, I dunno about the brand name/home built issue as I have ME on two home builts and my bench machine at work that isn't even in a case and they all run fine. As for your video problem, try getting updated drivers to see if that helps. On my one machine with an 8Mb AIW and dual Voodoo2's, I had to use the beta drivers from ATI while a co-worker who has just the AIW (no Voodoo2's) had no trouble at all with the supported driver. Not sure why you are losing the CD though. You should probably try a clean install instead of an upgrade.

Was this an upgrade that Gateway provided or did you purchase it seperately?
Many of Gateway's drivers, etc.are part of their recovery disk.
By installing or upgrading on top of their setup may be the problem.
