I have started having a problem with Mouseover in Win98SE and many of my programs. I have searched everywhere I can think of to try and remedy the problem but can not find anything to help.
About a month or so ago I started getting a little box with link info whenever the mouse passes over a link or an icon. In some cases the box will not go away even after the mouse is moved. It has become a real annoyance and I would like to get it to stop. Have spent hours going through Windows Help and even the help file of many of my programs but have not found anything about it. Any ideas on what is wrong and how I can go about fixing it?

Have you tried updateing your video drivers? Might also adjust the refresh rate of the video card.

The video driver's are up to date and I tried the refresh, but I'm still getting the mouseovers. There must be a way to turn it off.
Please someone, H...E...L...P, this thing is driving me mad. As in "...round the bend", "...as a fruit cake", "...short of a full deck", "sitting on the floor in the middle of the room countin' me toes and singing through blubbering lips, somebody somewhere loves me.". ;)
Look for settings called "tooltips". You might want to try a different mouse driver.

Think I found the problem, thanks for starting me on the track GLC. The answer was right in front of me and I had seen it a dozen times but it just didn't register because of that old human problem of one track thought.
I was looking for something in reference to, "mouseover" when I should have been looking for, "pop up".
You mentioned in your post to look for "settings called tooltips", well I looked and looked and looked but couldn't find anything about tooltips anywhere in settings, or anywhere else. However getting really desperate, and going bald in the process, I happened to click on, "Settings/Folder Options" for the umpteenth time and under Files and Folders there is a check box for, "Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items". It was checked. Ureka....a little light suddenly came on. I unchecked it and went back to the desktop and low and behold no more "mouseovers:, opps....ment to say, "pop ups".
Going to have a very serious talk with a couple of ladies about changing settings without letting me know. It's not nice to force the Eaglefeather into premature baldness.
Thanks again.

Don't feel bad. I lost a few hairs trying to remember the fix for that as well. That's why I didn't post, I just couldn't remember "tooltips" or popups, or where to shut them off. Brain fart. :D
If you were in the US you would be a protected species - the bald eagle :D

Might have to pull up stakes and mover there 'cause I am certainly in need of protection. :)
Wondered where you were Jim, it's nice to know I'm not alone in the premature feather...er...ah..hair loss. :)
