my system keeps crashing. Sometimes I get a blue screen and error message...I touch the enter key and it goes back to normal.

Other times it just restarts...as if I hit the restart button only it doesn't keep going. It gets stuck right after the memory test and I have to hit the restart button and it then gets back to running for a while. Might last an hr. Might only last 15 min.

This is running win 98 (version 2 upgrade for win 95)
Pentium 166
98 meg ram
matrox millenium II (4meg)

I have another hard drive running win 95 I can plug in and have no crashing or problems.

So where is the problem. I cleaned off the hard drive and re-loaded my software....still crashing......

any ideas guys?

Thanks, Jim

Anytime you get any sort of error, its best to reboot the pc. But if you'll post the exact words to the error message maybe we can help solve the situation.

OK....sometimes I get a blue screen and it says:

an exception OE has occurred at 0028: C14699E0 in VXD
This was called from 0028: C0001C494 in VXD NDIS (O1) +
00004920. It may be possible to continue normally.
Press any key to attempt to continue.

Other times it just restarts by itself but hangs after the mem test and I restart again.

I have just seen the same thing recently. I bought a new MB which uses DIMMs, and at the time I didn't have any. So I borrowed my dad's 32 meg stick and put my 64 megs of SIMMs in his. He is running Win95, and I have Win98SE. The RAM gave me continual BSOD's (same thing, Fatal Exception OE). So I bought some new RAM and my system works fine. Gave him back his RAM, and his systems still works fine with it. Apparently it works fine with Win95 but won't work at all with Win98. So my suggestion is to buy some new RAM. It's cheap enough anymore.

LOL...Jenni..you may be right. I took some chips out of an old machine of my mothers.

I'll have to check and see if I have simms and dimms mixed.

There must be a moral to this story...probably has to do with ripping off our parents RAM...ha ha.

thanks for the tip.

Do you have a network card in the computer? it sounds like its in a slot that is sharing an IRQ with something else.
