Ive got a Dell inspiron 1100 Laptop, and the problem is it has a dvd rom, but no cd burner or floppy drive. So i decided to look for one or the other, well im seeing a floppy on ebay, but it says its for an dell inspiron 3500, anyone have any idea of they are compatible?

ya im looking for an internal, but A that interal doesnt say its compatible with an 1100, and B. i dont wantto pay $89 for it, im willing ot buy used or from ebay, i just need to know if these kinds of drives are generally compatible with each other or not.

I don't think you can get a modular floppy for that model. It would have to be external.
No, laptop drives are not generally compatible with each other, you have to get specific drives. You may be able to get a burner for a different model to work if you disassemble the DVD drive and the burner, and put the burner in the frame that the DVD drive was in. This is not something that I would do unless I was experienced working on laptops, knew exactly what I was doing, and had documentation for reference.

The drives you are looking at are for a hot swap bay, i just sold my 4150 with a cdrw and a floppy drive. They are modular drives that swap in and out of the bay. They will not fit your 1100 as it uses a fixed bay.
