Is there a way to get rid of that irritating dial up noise. I have tried disabling the sound in the dial up place and it looks like it is disabled..but when I go back in, it has "reset". ???

Different modems use different scripts, check w/ your modems website for the appropriate commands. Entering a string into the modem's properties (Advanced connections/extra settings) can turn off the noise.

Or check 56k.com for the approriate string for your modem.

Dial up noise is good noise. At least you know something is happening. ;)

LDB, I believe you have to reboot the computer for your setting to work. Same thing with changing the init. strings.

The setting to disable the modem speaker is usually m0 (not to be confused with the short rendition of m0tard, a gaming term for people who go actually go out and buy winmodems, among other things :D).

Add M0 to the end of your string and see if it goes away.

That's a zero, not an O, btw.

Thanks everyone....Xayd, especially. It worked. But appreciated everyone's input. What a great place this is...wish I had found it sooner.
