When i defragg my hdd there are unmovable files, and they were all grouped together. I accepted this as part of the windows operating system and moved on. Now how ever I am deffragging and there are two clusters of unmovable files. I havent installed anything new. What could have cuased this or more importantly do i need to even worry about it. Also what are these unmovable files and where can i track them down?

First of all, i wouldn't worry about it and there is (to my knowledge) no way of moving them on the physical drive. They could be part of a windows update to your OS. Mine has the same thing. And actually mine are in 3 differant spots in the defrag display.

Probably the space for your "Virtural Memory" (Swapfile). Don't worry 'bout it, it's supposed to be there.

thank you just one more question. If the files are unmoveable why do they move spaces in the defrag display evertime i defrag. The defragg does not move them but whe i open them up the degragg shows them in diffrent places every time. WWouldn't that mean that they have moved?
Yes, but they are only safe to move when Windows moves them.

Believe one is the swap file (virtual memory) as stated and the other is the recovery points file which continues to expand. Here's a couple options that I do. First, set up a separate partition for the swap file equal to the total memory capacity times 3. (for 512 your swap would be 1536Mb). Then, assuming you are using XP, set the C: to not have a swap file and set the swap file size on the swap parititon to 768 -1536 (using my example). Second, before you defrag, open Disk cleanup and besides deleting all the temp and recycle bin files, go to the Advance tab and to the System Restore. Click the cleanup tab to remove all but the last restore point. Now your defrag will only have one small area of immovable files. Enjoy!
