My PC was installed at purchased with Norton personal firewall antivirus. The subscription is about to run out. To download OEM version will cost $41. I can purchase a Norton Systemworks 2003 version on CD-Rom for $22.95. from another vender. Will I have to uninstall the OEM version before I install new CD-Rom version?

I don't think you will need to buy a new copy and install it. You should be able to renew your subscription for another year or more (depending on available subscription packages) on the Symantec website for a lot less than the cost of a new copy of NAV/NIS.

Another option is to check out www.grisoft.com and download AVG. It's a free anti-virus program that does a good job. Many at these forums use it, including myself. There are also some free firewall programs available out there,
like ZoneAlarm free version at http://www.zonelabs.com .

Agree with Kov-Ice. Also, have you looked at the Norton upgrade rebate programs? Often times you can buy a new version and if you have proof of ownership of any AV older version, you can get a mail in rebate. Makes final cost usually less than $10 - sometimes zero.

If you decide to get the new version of Norton, you will have to uninstall the old version along with any folder or reference on your computer having to do with Norton or Symantec.
For a firewall i suggest SygatePE (free) over Zone Alarm or Norton.
