I just reinstalled win98, and I am now only getting a max of 16 colors in settings. The video adapter driver windows is using is generic. The problem is that there are no driver disks, and that I have no clue who made my adapter, so I cannot download what I do not know. Please tell me what to do. Thank You.
Well, unfortunately you can't do anything without knowing that graphic chip you have.
Windows generic driver only supports the minimum supported by all graphic chips: That means a resolution of 640x480 with 16 colors.
All you need to do is to replace the windows generic driver with the right driver for your card.
Open your PC and look at the card, at the chip. Normally there's written the model.
Please tell us then what graphic chip you actually have.

Right click on the desktop, select properties.
Select Settings tab, Advanced button, then Monitor tab.
Specify your monitor, or if you don't know/aren't sure, specify SUPER VGA 1024x768 Apply, OK, then do the restart.
If you still don't get more than 16 colors, you'll need to follow RJ's instructions, or completely remove "Display Adapters" from device manager, restart, and hope that windows can "pick it up" on the restart, that is, recognize a PnP video card, and ask or install the correct drivers.

Thanks guys, I now have plenty of color. I had to take my adapter out and look on the chipset, then download the appropriate drivers. I really appreciate the speedy help. This is a really good place for advice, I will definitely talk with you guys later. Thanks again,
Sean
